Allon is recovering from a grueling showdown with a Palestinian master terrorist, when a figure from his past arrives in Jerusalem. Monsignor Luigi Donati is the private secretary to His Holiness Pope Paul VII, and a man as ruthless as he is intelligent. Now, however, he has come to seek Allon's help. A young Swiss guard has been found dead in St. Peter's Basilica, and although Donati has allowed the official inquiry to determine that it is suicide, his instinct tells him that it is murder-and that his master is in grave danger. He has trusted Allon in the past, and he is the only man he trusts now.
Allon reluctantly agrees to get involved, but once he begins to investigate he concludes that Donati has every right to be concerned, as, following the trail from the heart of the Vatican to the valleys of Switzerland and beyond, he slowly unravels a conspiracy of lies and deception. An extraordinary enemy walks among them, with but one goal: the most spectacular assassination ever attempted.
Filled with remarkable characters and breathtaking double and triple turns of plot, The Messenger solidifies Silva's reputation as his generation's finest writer of international thrillers. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Simply Beautiful piece of workOct 18, 2009 I picked Daniel Silva's The Messenger with a few other novels for my new Kindle. As usual, I read the negative comments first before buying the book and almost dropped it. I started reading the book with a lot of prejudice on my mind but Mr. Silva turned me around and changed my views on his capacity as a fiction writer. And I can tell you he is a skillful master at what he does.
I just finished the book this morning and rushed to write a review on Amazon. No, I am not (neither are the 100+ reviewers who also enjoyed this book) a relative to Mr. Silva (and we are all sorry to disappoint you Mr. One Star) and I believe I just finished one hell of a novel. I enjoyed it from start to finish and I am looking forward to the next one.
If you are hesitating, you can take my piece of advice and buy this book. You will not regret it. The action is very believable (and this is actually what I judge a novel on) and very much actual. I simply loved it. The best novel I have had in years.
The Pace Will Leave You BreathlessOct 13, 2009 THE MESSENGER plunges readers into the intrigue of the Vatican combined with a terrorist plot that points right to the Saudis. From the first page until the final one, I found this book to be terrific entertainment. I highly recommend it.
MessengerAug 22, 2009 Top notch thrill ride! A must read for fans of LeCarre, Flynn ....a great yarn!
Better than the Da Vinci Code !Aug 15, 2009 I bought Daniel Silva's book "The Confessor" when I saw the sticker on the book in the store "As good as 'The Da Vinci Code' or your money back" having enjoyed all of Dan Brown's books. After finishing the book I came to the conclusion that the sticker was wrong, it was BETTER than 'The Da Vinci Code'.
I have since read all of Daniel Silva's books so far and have just purchased "The Defector" to take on holidays next week, I cannot wait. I recommend all these books to everyone.
Now all we need is a series of action movies up to the standard of the "Jason Bourne" series and I will be there as well with bells on !

Must have been paid by the pageAug 14, 2009 About three quarters of the way through this, it was like the author realized he wouldn't really be paid anymore for the last quarter. The interesting part of the plot ended, the villains were assassinated......The End. The Worst.
