Billions and still not happy!Jun 03, 2009 Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a billionaire? Well then Artemis Fowl is for you. Artemis is a billionaire teen who inherited a fortune from his criminal father. But when Opal Koboi, a criminal fairy, threatens to take over the human world with an evil clutch he must stop her.
Artemis himself would actually like to rule the world but is more interested in money. His whole family fortune is blood money. As for Artemis, he is a trained spy. He even has a giant bodyguard Butler is known for his killing power.
When Artemis encounters Opal Koboi he finds out some fairies are villains. To stop her he must get on the good side of Holly, a fairy, who works for the LEPrecon unit of the fairy police the protectors of good. However, she wants no part of his villainous ways. In fact, she has to be threatened by Artemis to help. Even then she resists. Will Artemis ever stop Opal? Will Holly help? Or will the world be enslaved?
All of these questions and more will be answered in Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception. I loved this book! I recommend it to everybody. Boys, girls, avid readers, and even people who are not fans of reading will enjoy this book.
Eoin Colfer, the author of this book, writes with a unique style, which makes you fall in love with it. This is a page-turner and I promise when you read this you will be in love with Artemis Fowl. This book has the perfect mix of humor, intelligence, darkness, and friendship.

Insane Pixie vs. Amnesiac Boy GeniusFeb 01, 2009 This fourth installment of the Artemis Fowl series contains all the elements that went to make the first three books so enjoyable--quick-paced plot, intriguing characters, wry humor--but the story also contains some darker facets. Basically, not everybody is allowed to survive in this episode. At the beginning of the story, Artemis Fowl and Butler have been wiped of all their fairy memories. Artemis's blossoming conscience and sense of empathy have disappeared with his memories, and he has reverted to his old unapologetic criminal ways. In the fairies' underground Haven meanwhile, Opal Koboi, the insane pixie genius, escapes custody so ingeniously that no one realizes she's gone. She then sets out on a campaign to wreak vengeance on everyone who had a hand in her capture (see book 2, Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident). Her targets include Commander Julius Root, Captain Holly Short, the centaur Foaly, Artemis Fowl, Butler, and fairy society in general. By the time Holly gets wind of the plot, Opal has set her up as a murderer and a fugitive from the LEP. In order to have any sort of hope of combating Opal, Holly must first rescue and then recruit a totally nonplussed Artemis Fowl, all the while dodging both Opal Koboi and the Lower Elements Police. Fortunately, Artemis did make a few provisions for this sort of occurence before his mind-wipe. His last fairy scheme, though forgotten by him, is still in motion. I recommend this book to anyone.
Another great Book read By a genius.Dec 20, 2008 Artemis Fowl and his great adventures, I won't spoil the plot, this review is about the CD's. They are packaged in a cardboard slip folder. No plastic jewel case here so treat with care. The book is very well written and narrated by Nathanial Parker who really puts you in the story with his different voices. Simply brilliant. Unavailable anywhere in the UK so had to purchase from the USA. Well worth the effort.
Perfect? Not quite. Pretty dang close? Yep.Oct 21, 2008 Artemis Fowl, fourteen year old criminal mastermind, and his burly bodyguard, Butler, have forgotten all about their adventures with their underground friends and the existence of the fairy People, and Artemis is up to his old tricks again. This time, he's set his sights on The Fairy Thief, a famous painting which has passed from owner to owner, thief to thief, through the years by only not-so-noble means. Now however, something's different--Artemis has suddenly, for no apparent reason, developed a conscience. But even as he swallows his doubts and begins working on his latest criminal enterprise, his old enemy, Opal Koboi, is again ready to take down the fairy People's relatively peaceful society--but first, she intends to take revenge. Opal, having lain in a self-induced coma since her last attempt on the People, has replaced her body with a clone, an almost exact copy of herself, and is back in business. Haven City is still trying to clean up from the last Artemis Fowl Incident, and is caught unawares. In one fell swoop Opal makes Artemis' old friend, Captain Holly Short, into a known fugitive and kills someone close to her, then goes after Artemis. The two are reunited, but Artemis' memories of Holly are still locked away, and he has no time to go looking for them.
This volume in the Artemis Fowl series will not leave readers disappointed--the fast-paced action and formidable humor are just as entertaining as it has been previously. The Opal Deception even reveals some unique dimensions to characters that have been around since the start of the series, and brings on a wave of nostalgia at seeing Artemis as a money-hungry evil kid genius again. And yes, Mulch is just as flatulent and more as when compared to previous volumes. The ending leaves the reader hungry for more and is open to new possibilities, perhaps even a touch of romance? Maybe not, but one can hope.
