"Husbands come and go; children come and eventually they go. Friends grow up and move away. But the one thing that's never lost is your sister." —Gail Sheehy It is often said that you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family. For those of us lucky enough to have sisters, SISTERS ARE SPECIAL shares the joy of this special relationship. No doubt, there are times when we've hated our sisters—they borrowed our clothes and never returned them; they acted as if they were smarter just because they were older, or they made fun of us in front of our friends. But our sisters often understood us when no one else did, and they were always there in the hard times to support us. SISTERS ARE SPECIAL is a loving tribute to those who play a unique role in our lives. Filled with anecdotes, poems, and quotes from the famous to the unknown, this book is a perfect gift for these very special people. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Title/Theme does NOT Match Content or ExpectationsJul 24, 2003 The idea/theme of Lucy Mead's series of (... are Special) really appealed to me and I expected to get inspired by quotations, poems, or positive stories about the specialness of sisterly bonds, and the quality of those relationships. To my surprise & dismay, I found only 3 entries among 100+ that fall within my expectations. Much of the content seem to be negative (or sometimes obscure) comments about sisters, or what famous people didn't like about certain aspects of their own sisters, and some were just excerpts from songs/movies/tv shows which have a "reference" to sisters but were neither inspirational nor captivating to me. I would say that the entries also seem disjointed and relied too much on excerpts from someone/something famous versus content of substance. Perhaps my expectations are way different from what the author wanted for her audience but I was planning to give this book to my own sister as a birthday gift. After looking closely at the content, I decided NOT to because my sister would most likely get confused or upset as to "WHY" I would give her such a book and perhaps wrongly assume that I harbor negative thoughts or ill feelings towards her! If you are looking for an uplifting, motivational book to celebrate sisterhood - this is NOT the one to choose. I have not read any of Mead's other books in this series so not sure if this style carries across to the other titles. I liked the physical packaging and the layout of the book, and the pages within has a fun/playful design and is visually pleasing...it's just unfortunate that these positive elements did not match up to the book's content.
